You might be considering hiring a financial advisor, but you don’t know where to start. Or maybe you already have an advisor, but you’re not getting the value for the cost. You’re in luck – I have two great options for you to consider rather than continuing to pay 1% of your assets under management for sub-par service.
Note – these are affiliate links. If you go through my links, I get a small commission at no additional cost to you. But I would never recommend products here to my virtual friends, that I wouldn’t also recommend to my real-life friends.
Fire Your Financial Advisor!
This is a great course from my friend the White Coat Investor. Although the name is designed to get attention, it’s really about giving you the fundamental education in finance you may not have received through books and blogs so far. He even has a whole section of the course dedicated to how to select a financial advisor. If you learn best by watching and doing, rather than just reading, and particularly if you’re a doctor – be sure to check it out. You can always learn more from that link, or you can read my full review here. If you’re not into taking a course, you can always get his excellent book. Or visit the always-free site and podcast.
I have several high-income friends that have lost thousands – or tens of thousands – of dollars due to lack of financial knowledge. Don’t be one of those people.
Ellevest
Say you don’t feel that you need a course to get started investing. You already have some basic financial knowledge, but you want some help. Maybe you’re a woman, or a mom, who wants to create a custom financial plan tailored specifically for women. Ellevest has an absolutely FREE financial plan creator designed for women. I highly recommend checking it out and creating a plan. If you create that plan and you’re interested in their financial advisor services, you’ll find that they offer a number of unique benefits. Give it a try!
